When it comes to filmers who shred, they don't get much more talented than Calvin Kosovich. A killer the bars and the lens, Calvin's knowledge and expertise mean he was the perfect judge for Vans The Circle this year. We threw some questions his way...

What are you going to be looking for in 'The Circle' edits?
I think a mix of younger and older riders filming together would be nice to see. It would reflect the shop’s community, growth and also diversify the riding styles in their video. Style and finesse over trickery for me personally. Music and editing will be crucial, if you choose a bad song it’s hard to see the art in the riding. The visuals and sounds should dance together.
Which teams are you most excited to see videos from?
LUX BMX, Kings Ride shop & Shredd Bikes. Theses guys all rule and also it’s the first time Vans Circle is incorporating shops outside the EU. It’s rad to see this get bigger. I already know I’m going to have a good time watching all the shops get down in these videos.
How important has your local BMX community been to you?
It’s meant everything to me, without that it’s very lonely in your day to day life. Shops don’t only stock bikes they also stock friendships and if your lucky to have a local shop in your area please support it! Always enjoy your moments with your friends and help build people up not bring them down.
From a filmer's point of view, what are the biggest challenges in creating any video?
When it comes to the street I’d say it’s all a challenge. Biggest issues will be spots, finding unique setups and executing the tricks. Once you find the spot you battle security, traffic and time. But all these challenges create better videos, each moment has a story and if used right it could be beneficial for the teams. The filmer will be playing the most important roll so keep the camera rolling - don’t miss anything!
The Circle teams don’t have as long to film as most would for a usual video part. Have you ever been on a tight filming deadline, and how do you deal with it?
If I had the choice I’d probably still be filming for my first part haha. Unfortunately deadlines are real so we have content for friends and riders around the world to watch. The best way to deal with deadlines is get the f#%k out there! If you’re sore no one cares, if you’re tired no one cares. You’ll thank yourself at the end of the day and be a prouder person for it. Work harder, that’s all you can do. Good luck to all the teams - go rip it!
