Meet The Judges - Dan Lacey

What are you going to be looking for in 'The Circle' edits?

The bar was set pretty high by last years edits, so I think all the teams are gonna have their work cut out for them. But originality is gonna play a big factor for me.

Which teams are you most excited to see videos from?

Honestly it’s hard to say there’s a shit load more crazy teams this year!!

How important has your local BMX community been to you?

Growing up in Hastings I’ve sort of been blessed with being at the forefront of lot of what’s gone on in the UK BMX scene. The older generation and even now with the younger cats coming through keeping the scene going.

Being from the UK, you’ll understand about bad weather. How have you dealt with that in the past? Any tips for filming in areas with non-cali weather?

Make the most of a dry day. Windy or not, showers a bit… fuck it, it’ll dry up. It’s hard to get carried away when you do get sunny days just thinking it’ll last forever. But in reality it lasts a day or so.

The Circle teams don’t have as long to film as most would for a usual video part. Have you ever been on a tight filming deadline, and how do you deal with it?

I’ve been lucky in the past especially with projects for Monster Energy and Vans just kind of pushing the deadlines back to suit me and work around injuries and shit like that. Unfortunately the teams don’t have this luxury.
