Meet The Owner: Łukasz Maternowski
Can you give us a brief history of your store?
It all began very naturally. I started riding BMX with my friends way back when. At the time, it was really tough to get any BMX parts (early 2000s), so me and my homies decided to start our own BMX store. That was in 2005. After many years of co-managing the initial store, I wanted to start my own thing, so 2013 was the year I established BMXLIFE, and it’s been like that ever since!
What type of riders are part of your community and what makes your community so special?
There are a lot of talented riders in Poland, and I think that our community is pretty tight-knit. It’s not a huge scene here, but everyone sort of knows everyone, and that’s really cool.

What’s your favourite BMX video?
Can’t really pick just one, but Garrett’s Deadline part and Dakota’s Talk Is Cheap part left me the most speechless. Also, both Talk Is Cheap and Let Em’ Talk DVDs from Cult are my all-time favourites.
Who is your favourite BMX filmer?
Veesh, Navaz, Tony Ennis, and Will Stroud. Videos from these guys always give me the very essence of BMX. Not too artsy, raw street power moves with dope, original soundtracks. I also love what Ben and Lewis are doing right now, paving their own way.
Tell us what’s good about your local scene:
The fact that BMXLIFE is like family, and I live close to my good friend Wiktor. Other than that, I won’t sugarcoat it - the scene is like 1/10th of what it used to be.
